Problem
People constantly need to remember a sentence, a UI, a price or a paragraph they just saw. Screenshots are blunt. Bookmarks lose the moment. Notes live somewhere else. The capture usually happens after the thought has already started to fade.
Idea
Stay on the page. Let someone highlight, mark and capture without leaving the tab or opening a heavyweight tool. HighShot should feel like a pen you already have in your hand — not another app to file things into.
Role
I framed the product, designed the capture flow and built the extension around a small set of actions: select, highlight, annotate, save.
Architecture / engineering
A content script sits on the page for selection and overlay drawing. The extension background coordinates capture and storage. The UI is intentionally thin so it never competes with the page being marked.
Technology
A Chrome extension written in JavaScript, using the browser's native selection, capture and storage APIs. No dashboard-first thinking. The page remains the workspace.
Challenges
Extensions break in ways websites do not: hostile page CSS, dynamic layouts, permissions, and the need to stay fast on sites you do not control. The overlay had to feel precise without becoming a graphics editor.
Solution
Keep the tool small. Highlight and annotate in place, capture what matters, then get out of the way. The product is the gesture of marking — not a new place to organize everything you have ever seen.
Result
HighShot is a lightweight capture tool for people who think visually while they browse. It treats the web itself as the canvas.
What I learned
Utility products win by disappearing. If the tool is heavier than the thought it is trying to save, people will go back to screenshots.
